Biographical Notes

Here is a short biography of what terrain I have traversed while learning the healing arts.

I came out of my high school with the idea that I should go directly to college and earn a degree in engineering. So I did. It was a local college close to my parents house. I thought very little about the decision. I was following my perceived expectations of what it takes to get a job. Strangely it was around this time strange physical symptoms and anxieties crept into my life, my body.  I was aware that it was uncomfortable - that I was uncomfortable. To find comfort and a solution I looked to doctors. They did tests and asked some questions but each time I walked away with less confidence in myself, more fear and they did not what was going on and had limited advice. I quit my academic goals. I worked instead. Construction and big rig truck driving mostly. The symptoms of discomfort got worse until I just literally dissociated from my body while on a shipping pier while waiting to pick up a large load of coffee to haul from San Francisco to Oakland. I was flummoxed, scared, in pain and decided to stop.

The sharp wake up call of the body failing under stress and lack of spirit was unbearable. I quit everything, stayed in bed. Eventually, I went back to school, this time to study Holistic Health and Botany. That was in 1987. Since then it has been a eclectic study and deepening of body oriented techniques for awareness and healing.

I studied the Life Art Process from Anna Halprin. I attended men's groups in the Northern Californian woods. I began a yoga and Tai Chi practice. I earned my massage therapist certification with Fred and Cheryl Mitour at the Pacific School of Massage and Healing Arts. I went on to apprentice and teach with Fred in advanced techniques of Transformational Bodywork. After this I completed a professional study in Theatre and Dance. I integrated the importance of creativity and expression in addition to manual therapy. I became very close to plants and their healing powers and presence as a botonist at the University Taxonomic Library. I completed my degree with a BA degree in Religious Studies. I studied mostly the east spiritual traditions of Buddhism as it focuses on mindfulness and helps people show up for their lives (being present). I studied Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy in London. There are also numerous workshops and teachers that I have studied with that are too numerous to list here. What is most important are the clients who have given me their trust and invested in their own healing path. From them comes the greatest evolution as a therapist and guide.

I taught advanced techniques of deep tissue and leadership at World School of Massage. I was the program director/teacher of massage at Corinthian College, in San Francisco. I moved to Paris in 2003. Today I have a practice in Nyon, Switzerland. I travel for my private practice to Lyon, London and San Francisco.
